Political: What are the "things" that matter to you?

Your home is wiped out. Gone. Do the things in the rubble matter to you? Do you move? Do you stay because all your things are in the rubble?

What matters to you?

Shelter and food is what is all about when you lose everything. Very sad situation.

Turdly appreciates the fact that he has two septic tanks. He's so full of shit he needs a third.

For some people an event like this forces the inevitable reality that we are only as valuable as our character and our belongings should not define who we are.

What matters to me? Being the best father to my children that I can be. Recognizing I cannot control their future or protect them 24/7. That's the hardest thing.

Ive told several times in here the story of the 89 earthquake that was centered only 5 miles from me in Calif. AFter two days I went to a big sporting goods store to try and get a Coleman stove and fuel. There were hundreds of people in line. If anyone came out with more than one of anything, the crowd got ugly becasue all wanted a fair share. After a whil a guy started going up and down the lines yelling 'Bullets! I have cash for bullets!' He wanted bullets to protect his family and whatever food they had. None of us had any on them but I lived 4 blocks away and had over 2000 assorted rounds of ammo. Hindsight is 20-20 and I should have raped that guys wallet but at the time having guns and ammo was the only thing that gave me comfort. The entire twon was cut off. All roads down. Oddly, only one small radio station could be recieved in our area. Nobody knew anything and all were afraid. I wouldnt have given that guy bullets for ten pounds of gold. Thats when it hit me....during disasterous times what really matters? 1. FOOD. 2. A way to KEEP OTHERS FROM GETTING YOUR FOOD. The idiot public invests in precious metal for 'hard times'. What are they going to do with a 100oz bar of silver? Cut a little piece off for some squirrel meat that I have? What am I going to do with gold, use it as a flashy fishing lure?

Food and Protection from other humans is all that matters.

Voice of Reasons question was more defined though---Id stay to get as much of my personal memory stuff as possible.

My photos are all stored on line.
No need to go back to the place except for the shock/titillation.
My Insurance is paid up.
Responsibility is MINE in instances like described.
